Charles John Wilder started his illustrative career in the energy sector with the Royal Dutch/Shell Group. His accomplishments were well noted at the corporation, and in time, he rose to the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shell Capital in London. Mr. Wilder began to truly distinguish himself, however, when he was hired as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Entergy. While acting as CFO at Entergy Corporation, Wilder was instrumental in spurring improvements that allowed for annual returns exceeding those of the S&P 500 by 18-fold. Mr. Wilder followed his success at Entergy with his most recent position as Chief Executive Officer of TXU. As CEO, and later, chairman, of TXU his guidance created over USD $32 billion of shareholder value, exceeding the value creation of the preceding two decades. TXU would go on to achieve industry-leading financial and shareholder value performance over multiple years and markets, including delivering total shareholder returns of 500% and annualized returns of 70%. The numbers placed TXU seventh in the S&P 500 and allowed for market capitalization growth of 220%. Profitability and returns were improved to the tune of 650% operational earnings raised per share and increased return on invested capital rose from 6.5% to 22%, a 240% improvement that led the sector. Because of Wilder's accomplishments, Institutional Investor magazine ranked him as the best CEO in the electric power sector three times running for the years 2004, 2005, and 2006. He was also noted as one of the 10 best CEOs in America (2005) and a top CFO (2004). Investor Relations magazine named him the best executive in investor relations, and recently, Forbes identified Wilder among "10 energy executives to watch" and described him as one of "one of the savviest." Today C. John Wilder serves as the Executive Chairman of Bluescape Resources and Chairman of the John and Susan Wilder Foundation. Bluescape Resources operates as an independent oil, gas, and minerals company that targets exploitation of lower risk development drilling opportunities.
